About the role: We have an exciting newly created role in our Christchurch site for a Trainee HAZMAT Consultant. Reporting to the Branch/Regional Manager this role requires a broad understanding of a number of occupational and environmental disciplines. Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be expected to specialise in at least one area initially but expand across the complete Precise service offering. Duties will include (but not limited to): Manage and assist with projects and sub-projects ranging from project inception to conclusion. Conduct a range of asbestos and hazardous materials audits including domestic; commercial and industrial properties. Undertake HAZMAT assessments and prepare plans Asbestos air monitoring and clearances Asbestos in soil sampling Occupational hygiene (exposure sampling/ monitoring) Mould and methamphetamine sampling. Prepare and review technical reports using the OCTFOLIO management system. Business development and client relationship management when required. Operating within and maintaining relevant OHS and industry regulations Provide technical services to clients, ensuring clients are kept informed of result progress and queries are answered Travel to site locally and domestically as required to deliver services and consultation. At times delivery of this service may include weekend work as required by our clients. At all times, and in all activities, ensure compliance with the PCL Health, Safety and Environment policy We’re looking for: Bachelor of Science and/or extensive experience from a scientific and/or environmental background Project management with hands-on field and data management experience Significant experience in risk identification and management Knowledge of asbestos and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) sampling and management (including asbestos, methamphetamine, mould and occupational exposure) Understanding of relevant AS/NZ standards A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite Experience in contaminated land sampling (for asbestos and other contaminants of concern) Knowledge of NZ laws as well as international (Work Safe Australia & HSE) will be invaluable, as NZ goes through legislative change. An understanding of 'best practice' methods such as those proposed by health and safety organisations such as Worksafe NZ and international bodies as appropriate.
