  • About the role
  • The Senior Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the successful delivery of significant complex projects ensuring they meet specified scope, schedule, cost, quality, operational needs and other outlined requirements. This role is Fixed Term until 31 December 2028.

Some of your key responsibilities will be

  • Lead and manage large-scale projects with significant impact on airport operations and customer experience.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, integrating various functions and teams.
  • Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government bodies, contractors, and airport services, to align project objectives.
  • Ensure that project changes are appropriately managed within the contract framework so that changes do not escalate in value and do not impact project performance
  • Monitor and report on project status to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Retain accountability for health and safety and environmental performance of the project
  • Provide and manage contract communications in compliance with the requirements of the contract
  • Ensure project design is actively managed to meet Infrastructure design and quality standards, and the requirements of the project brief
  • Ensure that the physical execution of the project is managed to minimise impact on members of the public and airfield operations in order to ensure the best possible customer experience
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are met for PECPR, Pipelines code AS2885.1 and CAA, and that the company’s regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Plan and co-ordinate third party inspection and testing of critical assets as they are constructed, such as fuel pipelines and hydrants.
  • Ensure that the asset owner and operator are appropriately involved in the project and that issues such as safety in design, maintainability, operability, commissioning, decommissioning and Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) form part of the project briefing and are actively planned for
  • Utilize advanced risk management techniques to anticipate potential challenges and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by optimizing processes and applying lessons learned from completed projects.
  • Act as a mentor and leader within the project management team, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.

To ensure your success in this role, you will need

  • · Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or a related discipline.
  • · More than 15 years’ experience in project management including projects valued over $200m in complex, highly regulated operating airfield environments.
  • · Significant experience with mechanical pipeline fabrication for hydrocarbon service.
  • · Extensive experience with NZS3910 construction contract management.
  • · Strong knowledge of Airfield Operations and Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) Protocols.

· Extensive direct experience in the design, construction and commissioning of the following disciplines

  • · Jet A1 pipelines to AS2885.1 including fuel delivery elements, coatings, cathodic protection and regulatory requirements
  • · Airfield Ground Lighting and Signage to ICAO Annex 14 Standards and CAA NZ requirements
  • · High Voltage infrastructure
  • · Communications and digital infrastructure in an airfield environment
  • · Security infrastructure to CAA NZ requirements
  • · Strong experience with risk management, demonstrating a high degree of capability in leading risk identification and assessment, pragmatic risk management and probabilistic risk treatment
  • · Strong leadership qualities with a proven track record of managing diverse teams and stakeholders. Experience with interface management and co-ordination in airfield environments, with stakeholders such as operations, customers, security, regulatory authorities and emergency services.
  • · In-depth knowledge of project management frameworks and methodologies (e.g., Agile, PMBOK).
  • · Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to solve problems proactively.
  • · Superior verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective stakeholder management.
  • · Experience with budget planning, financial tracking, and resource allocation.
  • · Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2) are highly preferable.
