This is an exciting space where we are contributing to the evolving financial landscape of NZ and continuously improving how API users interact with the bank. We also run legacy Mule applications with a vision to build an API community that actively contributes to simplifying and migrating these Mule web services to resilient technology whilst creating Enterprise grade APIs. This is an Auckland based hybrid role with three days in the office – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and two days where you can work flexibly. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role: What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete? Gain a full understanding of Payment NZ API Specifications as well as Government Customer Data Right regulations and translate these into clear requirements for the Team. Communicate with Payment NZ to request clarifications and write up Decisions to ensure Business Stakeholders and Delivery teams are aligned and have the same understanding. Work with the Platform Owner to refine the team backlog into stories for Delivery and support developers and testers in the team to ensure that they fully understand the requirements Facilitate workshops to elicit and elaborate requirements as well as regular retrospectives and support the team with completing actions Work with Payments Operations and Tech Teams to support the Onboarding of Third Parties. What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year? Our key Milestones for FY26 are the delivery of Open Banking APIs v3, migrating our Open Banking applications to AWS, re-writing Mule APIs owned by our Domain into Java/Springboot and deploying them on to AWS, supporting Third Party onboarding to Open Banking APIs and meeting our PNZ and Government compliance obligations. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? BNZ is at the forefront of Open Banking delivery in New Zealand. Joining our Open Banking team will provide you a front row seat to this evolution and help form the future of Open Banking in New Zealand. What technical skills are required for this role? This is a technical Business Analyst role. A good understanding of what APIs are and how they work is required. Be prepared to use tools such as Postman/Insomnia to make API calls and review responses. A good understanding of API authentication and certificate management is necessary to support onboarding of Third Parties. What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role? Technical expertise in APIs - BNZ Systems knowledge would be very beneficial. 3+ years of experience working within Technology teams in highly distributed technical environments as a Technology Business Analyst. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to discuss requirements at the right level with Business Stakeholders and technical delivery teams. Experience in analysing and converting Requirements into User Stories. Collaborative problem-solver with an agile, solutions-focused mindset. Have experience in the Agile methodology and the ability to work in a pragmatic, agile approach. Skilled in facilitating workshops and capturing outcomes effectively. Positive, can-do attitude with a supportive approach. Adaptable and open to change, offering constructive input and support to wider team.
