Ngā Kōrero mo tēnei tūranga / About the role We are looking for a tax specialist to join our Tax & Legal Services team in Kirikiriroa /Hamilton at Manager level. You will work to provide tax consulting and compliance services to a broad base of clients under the direction of senior staff. You will assist in solving a client’s complex business problems by minimising tax and tax compliance costs and managing their strategic and operational tax risks. This is a full time, permanent opportunity, minimum 37.5 hours per week. In this role you will: Manage tax projects - applying an understanding of legislation and the interpretation of case law, producing well researched and analysed tax opinions. Apply an understanding of financial statements and their relevance to the tax function. Review client tax calculations and advise on compliance with tax legal requirements. Conduct tax reviews of corporate clients, looking for tax issues and consultancy opportunities. Assist senior staff in proactively managing client relationships, responding to all client queries in an effective and timely manner. You will formulate solutions to client problems/issues as well as identify value-added opportunities. Address any knowledge gaps through learning and adaptation as appropriate. Contribute to continuous improvement of in-house systems, technology and procedures Provide support to junior staff. Ngā pūkenga kei a koe / Skills and experience 3+ years proven tax experience in a large, global Chartered Accountancy firm. Of those 3+ you will have experience in preparing and reviewing complex income tax returns, interpreting tax legislation and financial information, engaging with tax authorities on behalf of clients and managing client relationships. 7+ years proven experience in a tax specialist role. Of those 7+ years, you will have experience with providing advice on complex tax issues, working to resolve tax disputes with tax authorities, assisting with tax due diligence projects, and you will have proven strong tax research skills. A relevant Bachelor’s degree related to tax, accounting, finance or a closely related subject. It is preferable for the successful candidate to be CA qualified, or have a relevant post graduate qualification in tax Knowledge of tax legislation and experience managing tax projects. Proactive and results oriented approach. Experienced with technology-based solutions. Exceptional communication, influencing, and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with clients and staff. Ability to inspire teamwork, supervise, coach and support team members including assisting with the review and evaluation of staff performance.
