The Role:

Reporting to our Engineering Team Leader, we are looking for a Maintenance Engineer with relevant industrial and hands on experience to join our close-knit team.

This is a key role within our organisation to ensure the maintenance of our equipment, buildings, and services without compromising the health and safety of our staff, product safety or operational effectiveness. This position is vital for supporting our Engineering Team while Vitaco are undergoing a period of growth.

This is a permanent position, with the hours for this role being 40 hours per week, from 10:00pm to 6.30am, Monday to Friday. There will be occasional overtime and call outs required to support the team. The salary for this role ranges between $95,000 to $120,000 (plus night shift allowance) depending on experience. This role is based in East Tamaki.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with production leaders and operators to ensure timely resolution of all mechanical breakdown issues
  • Preventative Maintenance activities including continuous improvement feedback of PM plans
  • Identifying equipment issues and functional failure and reporting in CMMS (MEX)
  • Completion of scheduled engineering work orders
  • Liaise with Engineering planner for the procurement and stocking of equipment spare parts
  • Conduct and contribute to problem elimination RCA, RCPE
  • Assisting the Engineering Manager with running continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and Implement plant improvements to equipment and processes ensuring compliance with QA, Food Safety and HSE requirements

Take and active approach to the MBU (Daily Management System) process, including metric ownership and accountability striving for world class performance

To be successful, you will have the ability to not just 'do the job', but to use your analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the manufacturing plant. Although experience in the food, dairy or pharmaceutical industry is preferred, your interpersonal skills and an attitude for getting stuck in to get the job done is what will make you stand out.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in plant and equipment maintenance.
  • Minimum Trade certification with applicable trade and skilled in fitting, turning and machining
  • NZQA recognized level 7 or higher Mechanical Engineering degree will constitute an advantage
  • Dual Trade or EST qualification advantageous; support provided to obtain if not already held.
  • Experience in RCA, FMECA or similar tools
  • Good computer literacy and experience working within a CMMS (MEX used on site)
  • Demonstrated experience in a maintenance function, with a flexible and constructive approach to dealing with operational issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Experience in predictive maintenance solutions and continuous improvement using RCA tools
  • A strong results orientation and continuous improvement mind-set, good planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Fabrication skills are desirable
  • Experience articulating your fault-finding skills and discussing preventative maintenance activities as well as breakdown experience
  • Experience working on continuous product lines, compression machines and encapsulation machines.
