Position: Ka Ora, Ka Ako Cook – Healthy School Lunches Programme (Fixed Term) Hours: 15 hours per week Start Date: Wednesday 28th January 2026 End Date: Thursday 2nd April 2026 Reason for Fixed Term: This role is fixed-term to cover the school term and ensure continuity of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme during this period. About the Role: Te Mahoe School is seeking a motivated and reliable Ka Ora, Ka Ako Cook to prepare and deliver nutritious meals for our tamariki as part of the Healthy School Lunches Programme. The successful applicant will ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with health and food hygiene standards. Key Responsibilities: - Prepare and cook meals according to Ka Ora, Ka Ako programme requirements. - Ensure meals meet portion sizes and dietary needs for tamariki. - Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. - Record food temperatures daily and maintain evidence in a folder for management review. - Follow all health, safety, and hygiene requirements. - Work collaboratively with school staff to support the smooth running of the lunch programme. Essential Skills and Attributes: - Experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a school or large-scale kitchen. - Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards. - Ability to accurately record food temperatures and maintain documentation. - Organised, reliable, and committed to routines and procedures. - Team-oriented with good communication skills. - Physically able to carry out kitchen duties including lifting and standing for extended periods. Desirable: - Experience working in a Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme. - Food handling or qualification certificates.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: Up to $27.00 per hour
