Downer’s Infrastructure Delivery team is proud to support the Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway project. We’re seeking an experienced Structures Construction Supervisor to lead the safe, high-quality delivery of structural works that strengthen community connectivity and resilience.
About Ō2NL:
The Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety, resilience and efficiency, as well as increasing transport choices for the area’s growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in Partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council.
This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach, with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region, led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. We are seeking excellent people for this unique opportunity to work and collaborate with leading industry organisations.
Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
As the Structures Construction Supervisor, you’ll oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of structural construction activities including bridges, culverts, foundations, and retaining wall. You’ll lead field crews and subcontractors, coordinate plant and resources, and ensure all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support field crews, subcontractors, and labour hire teams on site.
Lead daily planning, task allocation, and performance management of construction teams.
Oversee heavy plant operations (excavators, cranes, telehandlers, concrete pumps).
Coordinate delivery of bridge, culvert, and retaining wall construction activities.
Ensure works meet design, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Manage materials, equipment, and workforce resources efficiently.
Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example in HSE performance.
Liaise with subcontractors, alliance partners, iwi representatives, and local stakeholders.
Support the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi – Partnership, Participation, and Protection – in daily operations.
This role is integral to the successful delivery of the Southern Alliance construction programme, helping to enhance community connectivity, resilience, and long-term legacy outcomes across the region.
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
- Proven experience in civil or structural construction supervision, ideally on bridges or heavy civil infrastructure.
- Comprehensive understanding of Civil earthworks structures, Construction of access roading, construction of piling and crane platforms and MSE wall construction.
- Strong leadership skills – able to motivate teams and deliver under pressure.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Confident communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Competency in interpreting technical drawings and construction documentation. Commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental excellence.
