Assistant Café Manager:

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Assistant Café Manager to join our busy garden-themed café in Pukekohe. This role suits someone who enjoys being on the floor, leading by example, and supporting both the café manager and front-of-house team to deliver excellent customer experiences.

You will be actively involved in daily service, staff leadership, training, rostering, and performance support, while also covering key wait staff duties during service periods.

Key responsibilities

Operations & leadership

  • Support the Café Manager in day-to-day café operations
  • Open and close the café when required
  • Maintain café presentation, cleanliness, and garden café ambience
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and company policies

Front-of-house & wait staff duties

  • Greet customers and deliver friendly, professional service
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately
  • Serve food and drinks efficiently and with care
  • Handle EFTPOS/cash transactions and daily till processes
  • Clear and reset tables, maintain FOH cleanliness
  • Assist barista and kitchen teams during busy periods

Customer experience & administration

  • Handle customer feedback and resolve issues professionally
  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and waste management
  • Support promotions, specials, and events where required

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience in a supervisor, senior waiter, or assistant manager role in a café or hospitality venue
  • Strong customer service and people-management skills
  • Confident training and leading front-of-house staff
  • Good understanding of café service and FOH operations
  • Organised, reliable, and calm under pressure
  • Flexibility to work weekends, mornings, and busy service periods

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
