  • This is a joint role across two supportive, high-impact teams.   • Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
  • We are seeking an experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who has a focus on obstetrics for a unique joint academic-clinical role spanning the University of Auckland and Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā. This 0.5 FTE academic and 0.5 FTE clinical salaried position offers an outstanding opportunity to shape the future of women’s health.
  • Based in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences, you will lead innovative research, supervise students, and contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The department is internationally recognised for its translational research, strong interdepartmental partnerships, and commitment to equity in health outcomes.
  • Clinically, you will join a progressive, collaborative team at Waitakere Hospital—supporting antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in a vibrant, high-volume maternity service. You will contribute to the obstetric on-call roster, clinical leadership, and service improvement across the Waitematā district.
  • This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician-researcher to drive impact across research, education, and maternal care—while working in one of New Zealand’s most diverse and fast-growing health regions.

This permanent position (40 hrs per week) has a salary range for

  • Senior Lecturer between $126,863 – $159,904 (pro-rata) and/or
  • Associate Professor from $165,808 - (pro-rata), dependent on skills and experience.
  • **The successful applicant will additionally receive an annual medical loading stipend from the University: Senior Lecturer - $60,260 & Associate Professor - $57,798 pro-rated. Note that after-hours on call is remunerated by the hospital in addition to the base salary**

  • You are an experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a focus on obstetrics and a strong commitment to equitable, evidence-based maternity care and a passion for academic medicine. You bring clinical credibility, proven research capability, and a track record of teaching and mentoring medical students and trainees. You are collaborative by nature, culturally responsive in practice, and motivated to make a meaningful impact on maternal and reproductive health outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate

  • Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility to obtain it)
  • Fellowship with RANZCOG (or an equivalent specialist qualification)
  • A PhD or MD, or substantial research experience in obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Proven ability to lead or contribute to high-quality clinical and/or translational research
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a commitment to student development
  • The ability to work effectively across academic and clinical settings, including supervision and service improvement
  • A clear focus on advancing health equity, particularly for Māori and Pacific communities
  • You will thrive in a joint appointment that allows you to balance clinical excellence with research leadership and teaching innovation, in an environment that values collegiality, curiosity, and impact.
